Massage Therapists
Angel Rivera, LMT
Mission
My mission is to offer a relaxing and therapeutic massage, to help your muscles to relax and to release tension, and to facilitate any healing that your body may want to do once it is in a relaxed state. My intention is that after a massage session, you will feel great!
I customize each session to the particular needs that you may have, and therefore, during a massage session I use different techniques, such as from the relaxing Swedish Massage, the restorative Deep Tissue Massage and the subtle but powerful energetic modalities of Reiki and Shiatsu.
A massage session is a wonderful opportunity for me to be in a mindfulness meditation, in which I pay attention, on purpose, in the present moment and without any judgement. My hope is that you may want to take advantage of the relaxation response produced by the massage, and to meditate too, or simply, to let your mind wander.
Background
I am a 20 year "thrivor" of malignant melanoma, a type of skin cancer, and after the last encounter, I decided to fulfill one of my purposes in life, which is to facilitate the healing of others and to help navigate those affected by cancer thru their recovery and wellness journey. For me, becoming a massage therapist was one way to have the tools, the skills, and the knowledge to server others.
I graduated in June 2007, from The Whole You school of massage and bodywork (http://www.WholeYou.com), in the beautiful area of Rutherford county, in western North Carolina (I traveled every 3rd week from Cary, to attend the weekend classes).
I am nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork® (NCBTMB®) and I am a member of the American Massage Therapy Association® (AMTA®) and of the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals® (ABMP®).
I am a naturalized US citizen and I was born and raised in Mexico, and therefore, I am fluent in Spanish. I received my Bachellors degree in Science (Electronic Systems Engineering) from the Institute of Technology of Monterrey, in Mexico, and my Masters in Science (Electrical Engineering) from The University of Texas at Austin.
I work full time in RTP, North Carolina, as a software engineer, providing technical support. Because I was facilitating the healing of computer systems, I wanted to facilitate the healing of human beings. Thus, this combination of engineering and massage and spirituality, gives me a unique perspective to address the relaxation and nurturing needs of body, mind and spirit.
